Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Rachel
at Parajunkee’s View and Alison at Alison Can Read. It is a great way for
bloggers to make new friends and find new blogs to follow. Go to either blog,
follow ALL the instructions and then add your link to the list. It’s just that
easy!
Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
I can't say that I have. I know that sometimes a bad review might put a book on my radar, but I have never read a bad review and said to myself "I have got to have that book!" I try to read multiple reviews before making a decision about a book (unless I am reviewing it, then I avoid reviews so as not to taint my opinion). There can be so many varied opinions about a book that just one review doesn't always give me enough information about it. I know that there have been books that I have given "bad" reviews to that other reviewers have absolutely loved. We all have an opinion, varied as they may be.
Now for the follow fun! I have three ways available to follow me--Linky Followers, Networked Blogs and GFC. If you leave a link in the comment section, I will stop by and follow back!
Happy Easter everyone!
I agree with you, everyone has their own opinions. :)

I also like to read multiple reviews before making a decision to read a book; I think it's good to get different opinions.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Great answer. I've never bought a book because of a bad review. I like to judge for myself. I'm a new follower by the way :)
ReplyDeleteHi there :) just hopping through. Reviews are so individual that most times they don't sway my opinion.
ReplyDeleteHere is my choice...

I agree with you it's quite the same thing for me too.
ReplyDeleteHere is mine
True, what may work for you, may not work with others. :D Here's mine.
ReplyDeleteHI!! Thanks for stopping by our blog. Miss Vain said it best - the negative reviews on Fifty were too good to pass the book up. With reviews, it goes two ways with me. If a friend or trusted reviewers hates a book, chances are I won't read it. If a random review in negative, it tends to pique my interest.

Yeah a bad review won't inspire me to read a book unless I already really wanted to read it. In fact I get sad when I read bad review on a book I really wanted to read. But every book is not for everyone, and that's what I try to say when I have to write a bad review. It's like almost anything else in life. Not everyone will like the same music or the same foods or desserts, so not everyone will like the same book.
ReplyDeleteBut there are a handful of bloggers I trust in their opinions. If I am curious about a book and they said it was kinda bad, I likely stay away from it!
Here's my Friday Hops
Have a GREAT weekend!

Thanks for stopping by. Varying opinions are what make me keep going to different blogs and GR to see if a book is worth it but then I still go by whether I want to or not.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same- I haven't necessarily read a book because of the bad reviews, but it has made me more aware of it and made me go and look up other reviews elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteNow following on GFC, Networked Blogs and Linky. FOLLOW ALL THE WAYS!

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I have bought a book solely based on one negative review, but I know that I have read books that got and maybe even because they got negative ratings. Sometimes because I simply wanted to judge for myself, sometimes because I knew that the stuff other people didn't enjoy were things I usually love. : )
